Mary Jo Bowie has worked in the Health Information Management field for over thirty years. She is owner of Health Information Professional Services, a health care consulting firm, established in 1985. Her business provides HIM services to all levels of health settings including, but not limited to hospitals, long term care facilities, physician offices, clinics, drug and alcohol facilities, and ambulatory surgery centers.

She is also an adjunct instructor in the Health Information Technology Program at Broome Community College, where she has taught medical coding, quality assurance, and computers in health care for over 17 years. As a Registered Health Information Administrator and Accredited Health Information Technician, she is a popular conference speaker, and has written multiple books on coding and health information management, including UNDERSTANDING ICD-9-CM, UNDERSTANDING PROCEDURAL CODING, UNDERSTANDING ICD-10-CM/PCS, and ESSENTIALS OF HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT, all from Cengage Learning.

An active member of the American Health Information Management Association, Ms. Bowie has served on the Board of Directors for the New York Health Information Management Association, where she was education director and a member of the Ambulatory Coding Guideline Committee. She is also an AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer. She has conducted over 45 ICD-10-CM/PCS national trainings since 2011 as well as providing on site consulting for ICD-10-CM/PCS implementation.
